Pinterest Pin Size in 2026: 1000x1500 (2:3) and What Gets Cut Off
6 October 2026 · 5 minute read
The standard Pinterest pin size is 1000x1500 pixels, a 2:3 vertical image. Pinterest calls 2:3 the best ratio and warns that "Pins with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off" in the feed. You can upload up to 20 MB per image on the web, as JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF or BMP, in sRGB colour. Taller pins are allowed, but guides report that anything beyond about 1000x2100 (1:2.1) is cut off at the bottom until someone opens it.
What size is a Pinterest pin?
| Pin type | Ratio | Pixels | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard pin | 2:3 | 1000x1500 | Pinterest's recommended shape |
| High-resolution pin | 2:3 | 2000x3000 | Same shape; the largest size guides list |
| Square pin | 1:1 | 1000x1000 | Accepted, but shorter, so it takes less room |
| Long pin (maximum) | 1:2.1 | 1000x2100 | Taller than this is cut off in the feed |
| Minimum | 2:3 | 600x900 | The smallest size guides list |
| Carousel ad card | 2:3 or 1:1 | 1000x1500 or 1000x1000 | Ads only, 2 to 5 cards |
Pinterest's own pages give only 2:3 as the best ratio. The 1:2.1 limit, the 600x900 minimum and the 2000x3000 maximum come from Tailwind, Outfy and Ayrshare, so treat them as well-tested guidance rather than official rules. Pins sit in columns of equal width, so shape, not pixel count, decides how much space a pin gets: 1000x1500 and 2000x3000 take exactly the same room, and the larger one simply looks crisper on high-resolution screens.
What happens to pins taller than 2:3?
They still publish, but the feed may not show all of them. Pinterest's warning covers anything taller than 2:3, and Tailwind and Outfy both report that pins up to about 1:2.1 (1000x2100) display in full while anything longer is truncated, so people see the top part and have to open the pin to see the rest.
Some guides still list 1000x3000 as an "infographic" size. That is taller than the 1:2.1 cut-off, so the bottom 900 pixels or so, nearly a third of the pin, would be hidden in the feed. If you have long content, such as a step-by-step guide or a checklist, either split it into several 1000x1500 pins or keep it within 1000x2100 with the hook and the title at the top. Square and landscape images avoid this truncation, but they are shorter, so they take up less of the column than a 2:3 pin.
What file types and sizes does Pinterest accept?
| Spec | Value (October 2026) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| File types | JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, BMP | Pinterest Pin specs |
| File size | 20 MB on the web; 32 MB in the mobile app | Pinterest ad specs |
| Colour | sRGB; custom colour profiles are not supported | Pinterest ad specs |
| Title | Up to 100 characters; the first 40 show in the feed | Pinterest Pin specs |
| Description | Up to 800 characters | Pinterest Pin specs |
The 20 MB web limit is generous: a single 2000x3000 image is usually well under it, and Tailwind suggests staying under 5 MB so pins load quickly. The colour rule matters more. Export in sRGB, because an image saved with a print or wide-gamut colour profile can look different after upload. Pinterest's Pin specs page also says "1 GB recommended" for Android and iOS, which most likely refers to video and conflicts with the 32 MB figure; plan around 20 MB.
What happened to Idea Pins and multi-image pins?
Idea Pins no longer exist as a separate format. On 11 May 2023 Pinterest merged them into standard Pins, and since then, uploading several images at once in the iOS or Android app stitches them into a single video Pin rather than a swipeable set of images. There is no organic multi-page image pin. Carousel Pins still exist, but only as ads: 2 to 5 images (up to 10 with the sales objective), each 1:1 or 2:3, every card the same ratio, up to 20 MB each.
So an Instagram carousel does not carry over to Pinterest as a carousel. Either post the strongest slides as separate pins, redesigned at 2:3 because 4:5 slides are shorter than a standard pin, or turn the key idea into one pin that links to the full post. If you make full-screen 1080x1920 content for Pinterest, its Pin specs page lists the areas the interface covers: keep 270 px clear at the top, 65 px on the left, 195 px on the right and 790 px at the bottom.
How do you make a pin at exactly 1000x1500?
Set the size before you start. Canva and Figma both take a custom canvas of 1000x1500. In Claude Design, put the size in the first line of your prompt ("Design a 1000x1500 Pinterest pin...") and ask for the title near the top, large enough to read on a phone; the social post prompts show the structure, and the size guide lists other platforms. Claude Design can download a single artboard as a PNG at 1x or 2x, which is all one pin needs.
If you are turning a batch of designs, or a multi-page HTML export, into pins, Renda renders each design as its own PNG. It has no Pinterest preset, so choose Auto-detect, which renders the design's own canvas at 2x: a 1000x1500 design comes out at 2000x3000, the largest size guides list, in sRGB. Pinterest accepts the PNG as it is; convert it to JPEG in a free tool such as Squoosh only if you want a smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
Should a pin be JPEG or PNG?
Either works. PNG keeps text and flat colours crisp; JPEG makes a smaller file for photo-heavy pins. Pinterest accepts both up to 20 MB on the web.
Do pins need CMYK or 300 DPI?
No. Pinterest is viewed on screens, so it wants sRGB and the DPI setting makes no difference. Pixel size is what counts, and 1000x1500 is enough.
Can a pin be larger than 2000x3000?
