Claude Design vs ChatGPT Images 2.5 for Social Media Graphics

6 October 2026 · 6 minute read

For social graphics that carry text, such as quote cards, statistic posts, announcements and carousels, Claude Design is usually the better tool: it builds the graphic as a layout in code, so every word, font and brand colour comes out exactly as specified. ChatGPT Images 2.5, OpenAI's current image model (released 8 September 2026), is better when the graphic is mostly picture: a photo-style scene, an illustration or a texture. It draws pixels, so text can still come out misplaced or misspelt, and the slides of a carousel drift apart in style.

The short version: text-led post or carousel, Claude Design. Picture-led post, ChatGPT Images 2.5. ChatGPT is on every plan, including Free; Claude Design needs Claude Pro or above. ChatGPT saves images straight from the chat, while Claude Design exports PNG one artboard at a time, with no platform size presets.

How do Claude Design and ChatGPT make a graphic differently?

Claude Design writes a layout: HTML and CSS on a live canvas, where text is real text in a real font and each element can be changed on its own. ChatGPT Images 2.5 generates the whole image as pixels. To change something, you ask for a selective edit, which version 2.5 is designed to make while leaving the rest of the image alone, or you regenerate. Developers reach the same model through the API as gpt-image-2.5-flare (fast, the default) or gpt-image-2.5-sunburst (for precise editing). It replaced Images 2.0 (gpt-image-2), released in April 2026.

Can ChatGPT put exact text on a social graphic?

Often, but not reliably. Text rendering has improved a great deal, and OpenAI claims Images 2.5 is better at infographics and layout, yet its own developer documentation still warns that the models can struggle with precise text placement and clarity. Accuracy percentages quoted on third-party sites are marketing claims, not OpenAI figures. In practice, check every word, number, name and web address before you post, and expect more trouble with dense, small text than with a short headline.

Claude Design avoids the problem because the text is typed, not drawn: whatever you put in the prompt is what appears, in the font you named or the one in your design system. One marketer who moved infographics from image generators to code-built layouts in February 2026 gave exactly this reason: pixel-perfect typography and numbers that stay correct. The Claude Design prompts for social posts show how to hand over the exact copy.

What sizes can ChatGPT Images make, and can it do 1080x1350?

OpenAI documents sizes for the API. The recommended sizes are 1024x1024, 1536x1024 and 1024x1536. Custom sizes work if both sides are multiples of 16 pixels, the ratio is between 1:3 and 3:1, the long edge is at most 3840 pixels and the total is between 655,360 and 8,294,400 pixels; anything above 2560x1440 is marked experimental. The ChatGPT app's own size options are not documented in the same detail, so name the ratio in your prompt and check the file you get.

Because 1080 is not a multiple of 16, you cannot request the common social sizes exactly. Worked out from OpenAI's rules:

Platform sizeNearest valid ChatGPT sizeThen
Instagram 4:5, 1080x13501088x1360 or 1152x1440Resize to 1080x1350
Square, 1080x10801088x1088Resize to 1080x1080
Instagram 3:4, 1080x14401152x1536Resize to 1080x1440

Claude Design has no such constraint: set the canvas to 1080x1350 in your prompt and the layout is built at that size. The Instagram post size guide covers which size to choose.

Which is better for a carousel?

Claude Design, by a distance. It builds the whole carousel as one deck with shared fonts, colours and margins, so slide 7 matches slide 1, and changing the accent colour changes every slide at once. ChatGPT generates each slide as a new image. Even with the same prompt style, colours, fonts and art style drift from slide to slide (a frequent complaint in carousel tutorials), and every slide's text needs its own check.

ChatGPT still has a role in a carousel: a striking cover image, or an illustration for one slide. The slides where the words carry the message are better built as a layout. The comparison of the best AI tools for Instagram carousels covers the other options, from Canva to dedicated carousel makers.

Where does ChatGPT Images win?

  • Pictures. Photo-style scenes, products in a setting, illustration, texture and mood. This is what it is built for: polished, photo-real marketing visuals.
  • Cost. Image generation is on every ChatGPT plan, including Free. Claude Design needs Claude Pro ($20 a month, or $17 billed annually) or above, and its use counts towards your plan's shared limits.
  • One-offs. One prompt, one image, saved straight from the chat. Version 2.5 also added a sketch tool, templates and comments on the image for directing edits.

A sensible split for many posts: generate the picture in ChatGPT, then set the words over it in a layout tool. The image gets ChatGPT's strengths, and the text stays exact.

How do you get each one out as a PNG?

ChatGPT gives you the image directly: save it from the chat (the API returns PNG by default, with JPEG and WebP as options). It comes at whatever size was generated, so resize it to the platform size if needed.

Claude Design exports PNG too: one artboard at a time, at 1x or 2x, from the menu on each artboard, or under Share > Export in a Claude conversation. For a single post, that may be all you need. It has no platform size presets, though, and no way to export every slide of a carousel as PNGs in one go. For that, Renda renders a Claude Design HTML or zip export into one PNG per slide at sizes such as Instagram 4:5 (delivered at 2x, 2160x2700) or LinkedIn post, numbered in order, with leftover viewer elements such as arrows and slide counters removed. Each slide counts as one of the five free PNGs a month.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT Images 2.5 the same as DALL-E?

No. DALL-E is not OpenAI's current image model. ChatGPT now uses ChatGPT Images 2.5, released on 8 September 2026, which replaced Images 2.0 from April 2026.

How do I fix misspelt text in a ChatGPT image?

Ask for a selective edit that names the exact word and the correct spelling; Images 2.5 is designed to change that part and leave the rest alone. If it keeps failing, ask for the image with no text at all and add the words in a layout tool.

Which is better for LinkedIn graphics?

The same logic applies. Text-heavy LinkedIn posts suit a layout tool, and a LinkedIn carousel is posted as a multi-page PDF rather than a set of images, which a layout tool can export directly. Use ChatGPT for a single eye-catching image.
