How to Make a LinkedIn Banner with Claude Design: Profile and Company Sizes, Photo Overlap and Mobile Crop

6 October 2026 · 7 minute read

A LinkedIn banner made with Claude Design is a 1584x396 px image for a personal profile, or 1512x256 px for a company page, with the important text kept in the top half and away from the left and right edges: the one area that neither your profile photo nor the mobile crop reaches. Ask Claude Design for the exact canvas, tell it where the photo will sit, and export a PNG. Personal banners can be up to 8 MB; company covers only 3 MB.

The short version: personal banner 1584x396, text in the top half and inside the middle 60% of the width. Company cover 1512x256 (the 1128x191 in older guides is the same shape, just smaller), message in the middle, lower-right corner clear. Export PNG, check the file size, upload.

What size is a LinkedIn banner in 2026?

FormatsJPG or PNGPNG or JPEG
Maximum file sizeUnder 8 MB3 MB

These come from LinkedIn's own help pages, checked in October 2026. The company size is the one most guides get wrong: nearly every 2026 guide still quotes 1128x191 and 8 MB, and LinkedIn has not said when it changed. The useful detail is that the two are the same shape. 1128x191 and 1512x256 are both about 5.9:1, so a design made at the old size scales up to the new one without cropping, only with less sharpness. Start new company covers at 1512x256. Older guides also say profile banners can be GIFs; LinkedIn's page now lists only JPG and PNG. For other LinkedIn formats, see the Claude Design size guide.

Where does the profile photo cover a personal banner?

On a personal profile your round photo sits on top of the banner, and where it lands depends on the screen. On desktop it overlaps the bottom left; in the mobile app it sits at the bottom centre. LinkedIn publishes no pixel-exact safe zone, and says the banner's appearance varies with browser window size and screen resolution, so treat these as zones rather than coordinates.

Bottom leftCovered by your photoVisibleBackground only
Bottom centreVisibleCovered by your photoBackground only
Left and right edgesVisibleTrimmedBackground only
Top half, middle 60% of the widthVisibleVisibleText, logo, key image

This is why the classic layout, a big line of text pushed hard against the right edge, looks fine on a laptop and breaks on a phone: the edge gets trimmed, and anything low in the middle disappears behind your face. Keeping the words high and central works on both.

What does LinkedIn crop on mobile?

Phones show the banner narrower than desktop does, so the sides go. For personal banners, one 2026 guide recommends keeping key content in the centre 60% of the width and another in a centre box of about 1200x300 px. They roughly agree: on a 1584 px canvas, the centre 60% runs from about 317 px to 1267 px across. Combine that with the photo positions above and you get the top half of that central strip.

For company pages, LinkedIn says only that images "might be adjusted to fit the screen, which might trim the image horizontally or vertically", and advises keeping the lower-right corner clear. One guide puts the mobile company crop at about the centre 900 px of the width; that comes from a single source and varies by device, so treat it as a rough target rather than a rule.

What prompt makes a personal LinkedIn banner?

This prompt spells out the photo overlap and the mobile crop, which Claude Design cannot know about otherwise. Replace the bracketed parts. If your brand is set up as a design system in Claude Design, swap the style line for "use our design system".

Design a 1584x396 LinkedIn profile banner (personal profile, 4:1).

Copy, exactly this and nothing more:
- Headline: [what you do and for whom, under 10 words, e.g. I help B2B SaaS teams turn webinars into pipeline]
- Small line underneath: [yourwebsite.com or one proof point]

Safe areas (these matter more than anything else):
- Put all text in the top half of the banner, between 320px and 1260px from the left edge. Phones trim the sides.
- Keep the bottom-left area (the first 500px across, bottom half) free of text and detail: my profile photo covers it on desktop.
- Keep the bottom centre free of text too: my photo sits there in the mobile app.
- Leave at least 30px clear above the headline.

Style: [background colour or subtle gradient], [text colour], headline in [font] at about 48 to 60px. Background shapes may run edge to edge, but no text or faces near the edges.

Leave out: other companies' logos, stock photos, icons, contact details, and any text I have not given you.

What prompt makes a company page banner?

Company covers are much flatter than personal ones, LinkedIn asks you to keep the lower-right corner clear, and the logo already appears in its own square on the page. One tagline or one campaign message is plenty.

Design a 1512x256 LinkedIn company page cover (about 5.9:1).

Copy, exactly this and nothing more:
- [Company tagline or current campaign line, under 8 words]
- Optional small line: [yourwebsite.com]

Layout:
- Keep all text inside a central area about 900px wide, vertically centred, so it survives the crop on phones.
- Keep the lower-right corner empty of text and detail.
- Leave at least 30px clear above and below the text.
- Do not add our logo: the page shows it separately.

Style: [brand colours], [font], tagline at about 44 to 52px. A simple pattern or gradient can fill the full width.

Leave out: photos of people near the edges, small print, contact details, and any text I have not given you.

How do you export the banner and upload it?

In Claude Design, open the artboard's menu on the canvas and export it as PNG 2x for a sharper file, or, in a Claude conversation, use Share > Export > PNG (image). Before uploading, check two things: the shape (exactly 4:1 for a profile, about 5.9:1 for a company page, so LinkedIn's crop tool has nothing to cut) and the file size. Personal banners have plenty of room at 8 MB; the 3 MB company limit is tighter, and a photo-heavy cover can pass it. If it does, convert it to JPG with a free tool such as Squoosh.

If you make banners for a team, or need to render a file a client sent you as HTML, Renda has LinkedIn profile cover and company cover presets: drop the HTML or .zip export and get the profile banner at 2x (3168x792) or the company cover at 2x (3024x512, LinkedIn's current 1512x256 shape), with editor elements removed. It outputs PNG only, so the JPG step still applies to a company cover over 3 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Does my banner look the same to everyone?

No. LinkedIn says the banner's appearance varies with browser window size and screen resolution, which is why the safe areas above are zones, not exact pixels. After uploading, check it on your own phone and on a laptop.

Can a LinkedIn banner be animated?

Not according to LinkedIn: its help pages list only JPG and PNG for personal banners, and PNG or JPEG for company covers. Guides that mention GIF are out of date.

Why does my banner look soft after uploading?

Usually because it was exported at screen resolution, or the shape was slightly off and LinkedIn's crop tool enlarged it. Export at 2x and at the exact ratio so nothing has to be rescaled or cropped.

Can I reuse my LinkedIn banner on X?

Keep the style, but redo the layout. X headers are 1500x500 (3:1), lose about 60 px at the top and bottom on some screens, and put the photo on the lower left. See how to make an X header with Claude Design.
